on Tuesday when they continue a three-game series with the Texas Rangers at
After getting swept in three games by the Milwaukee Brewers over the weekend,
Boston responded in Monday's opener against the Rangers, as Jackie Bradley
finished with three hits and drove in a pair of runs in the Red Sox' 5-1
Daniel Nava and Dustin Pedroia each knocked in a run, while A.J. Pierzynski
added three hits and scored twice for the Red Sox, who banged out 14 hits in
John Lackey (2-0) allowed a single unearned run on five hits with two walks
and five strikeouts over seven solid innings.
"He showed why he's one of the best pitchers in the American League. He made
us swing the bats," said Rangers manager Ron Washington. "We had some
situations where we could have broken through, but couldn't get the base
Shin-Soo Choo and Alex Rios collected a pair of hits and Mitch Moreland drove
in the lone run for the Rangers, who had dropped two of three over the weekend
at Tampa Bay.
Tanner Scheppers (0-1) pitched well in defeat, giving up two runs on nine hits
over five full frames.
On Tuesday, the Red Sox will turn to lefty Felix Doubront, who has struggled
mightily in his young career against the Rangers. Doubront has made three
starts and three relief appearances against them and is 0-3 with an 11.40 ERA
against them. It's his highest ERA against any American League team.
Doubront won his first start of 2014 against Baltimore, as he allowed three
runs and six hits in 5 1/3 frames.
The Rangers, meanwhile, will counter with a young lefty of their own in 23-
year-old Martin Perez, who pitched well his first time out, but did not get a
decision against Philadelphia, despite surrendering just a pair of runs in 5
